Today, Merrillville, Indiana Linebacker Josh Barajas switched his commitment from Penn State to Notre Dame. Barajas originally committed to Penn State on March 30th. He now becomes the 9th commitment in the 2015 Notre Dame football recruiting class.
Barajas checks in at 6’3″ 210 lbs. During his recruitment, he collected offers from Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, N.C. State, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin. Based on this offer list, Barajas shows that he possesses elite talent as a recruit. His list only lacks the elite national schools like Alabama, Florida State and USC.
In 2013, Barajas’ Junior year, he collected 92 tackles, 5 sacks and 2 interceptions.
Mainstream national recruiting services highly rate Barajas. 247Sports considers him as the 2nd best Inside Linebacker and 157th overall. Rivals rates Barajas as the 14th best Outside Linebacker and 206th recruit nationally. ESPN ranks him as the 9th best Insider Linebacker and 283rd best prospect overall.
When Barajas arrives at Notre Dame, will he play Inside Linebacker or Outside Linebacker? Barajas’ Head Coach Phil Mason told Irish Sports Daily, “I think he’s another Jaylon Smith. We played against Jaylon in semi-state Jaylon’s senior year, they’re the same kid. The fact that they’re going to have two bookend linebackers like that, they’re going to improve immensely at linebacker.” Mason clear perceives Barajas as an Outside Linebacker, most likely a SAM Linebacker in Notre Dame’s new defense.
