The 2014 Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s football schedule compares to most of their schedules over the past few seasons that the team will be challenged on a weekly basis, but also alike past seasons’, the Irish will compete in nontraditional venues, showcasing the football team and University around unique settings across the country.
First off will be the 2014 edition of the Shamrock Series, staying in the Midwest, fueling the rivalry with Purdue in a primetime 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN, on September 13. This will also be the first opportunity for incoming outfitter Under Armour to create the eye-catching uniforms to which they are known for as the Irish traditionally sport futuristic looking uniform combinations in the series.
A bye week follows the Boilermakers before the Irish head to MetLife Stadium, in East Rutherford, NJ, to take on the Syracuse Orange less than a year after the Super Bowl being played in the stadium. Notre Dame has had a lot of New Jersey and New York players on the roster and recruitment trail under Brian Kelly and this location is a perfect fit for the Irish in this matchup.
Lastly, classified as a home game for the Irish, the first Saturday of November puts Notre Dame at FedEx field to take on the Navy Midshipmen. Last seasons’ victory over Navy was sealed late in the fourth quarter from a Jaylon Smith tackle as the Irish held on in South Bend 38-34. It will be hard to predict anything but a close game based on how the teams have fared against each other over the past six or seven seasons.
For Irish fans across the country, playing these games in a home/away/neutral site provides a unique experience and helps maximize exposure for everyone involved. A heads up for 2015 puts the Irish in Fenway Park v.s. Boston College and Lincoln Financial Field taking on the Temple Owls.
What do you think of the venues and where would you like to see the Irish play?
