Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Could Jerry Tillery De-Commit From Notre Dame?

Louisiana Offensive Tackle Jerry Tillery committed to Notre Dame last summer following a visit to South Bend. However, that has not stopped schools like LSU from pursuing the 4-star prospect.

247Sports reported yesterday:

Nearly a year later, the work done by the LSU staff – spearheaded by assistants Jeff Grimes and Steve Ensminger – is paying off in the minds of recruiting analysts. The last four picks on Tillery’s Crystal Ball have been put in for LSU, including the latest coming on Saturday. Barton Simmons (National Recruiting Analyst), JC Shurburtt (National Analyst), Demetric Warren (Dir. of Scouting/Recruiting at Varsity Preps) and Courtney Walker (founder of Varsity Preps) each have picked the Tigers.

According to 247Sports analysts, Tillery’s chances of landing at Notre Dame are down to 56%. Fears of a de-commitment are only furthered by the fact that Tillery was posting “selfies” with LSU Head Coach Les Miles at a literary rally.

De-commitments happen every year. Richard Yeargin, Alex Anzalone, Deontay Greenberry are only a few names on an unending list. If Tillery were to bolt for the Tigers, it would not be the first time for Brian Kelly or any Notre Dame coach.

There is only one positive. Notre Dame has landed 3 commitments from Offensive Linemen in this class (Tillery, Hoge and Ruhland). In the previous 2 classes, Notre Dame landed 9 total Offensive Linemen. So, if Tillery de-commits, Notre Dame still has substantial depth at the Offensive Line position.

However, Tillery may have the highest upside of any Offensive Linemen that Notre Dame has landed a commitment from so far. Turning that commitment into a signing would be huge for the Irish.
