Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Backup Plan at Quarterback for 2015

If the worst comes to pass and Blake Barnett de-commits from Notre Dame and selects Oregon, Notre Dame has few options at the Quarterback position in the 2015 class.

Notre Dame offered six Quarterbacks in the 2015 class including Blake Barnett. The Irish also offered UCLA Commitment Josh Rosen, Michigan State commitment Jayru Campbell, Iowa commitment Jack Beneventi, Texas A&M commitment Kyler Murray and Florida State commitment De’Andre Johnson.

Notre Dame was highly involved with Iowa commitment Jack Beneventi before receiving a commitment from Blake Barnett. Besides offering another Quarterback, Beneventi would be Notre Dame’s best shot at landing a Quarterback in the 2015 class if Barnett de-commits.

Dual-threat Quarterback Sheriron Jones could be a prospect that Notre Dame offers. Jones hails from Moreno Valley, California. Rivals ranks him as the 10th best dual-threat Quarterback in the country and 243rd best prospect overall. Jones told Irish Illustrated in September 2013:

“I think Notre Dame has one of the best traditions, school traditions. It’s not just about last season.  I watched them most of the time when I was young because they were like one of the top teams when I was younger … They’ve always been a team that’s up there.”

It is important to remember that Notre Dame will have Everett Golson, Malik Zaire and DeShone Kizer in 2015. So, landing a Quarterback in the 2015 is not as necessary as Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly would say it is. If the Irish landed a quality prospect in the 2016 class, the Irish would have Zaire, Kizer and the prospect entering the 2016 season.

Notre Dame Football recruiting just got very interesting.
