Pat Connaughton Selected in the 4th Round By The Baltimore Orioles

Pat Connaughton could be known as the only person to dunk on Jabari Parker and strike out Jameis Winston. Connaughton hopes to be knowns as a Cy Young award winner someday. The Baltimore Orioles selected the Notre Dame two-sport athlete in the 4th Round of the MLB Draft on Friday.

Connaughton is a rare athlete that excels at two sports. As a Junior swingman for the Irish basketball team, Connaughton averaged 13.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. On the mound, Connaughton posted a record of 3-5 with a 3.92 ERA.

Connaughton has maintained that he desires to finish his degree at Notre Dame and play his Senior season of basketball. To do so, Connaughton would have to negotiate a contract that would allow him to do so.

If he does, he would pitch in the minors during the summer then return before the Fighting Irish basketball team travels to Italy for a series of exhibitions. The Notre Dame Senior would play his Senior year of basketball then play baseball full time.

If Connaughton returns, he will likely be a captain for the Fighting Irish and one of the most important players on the team. Pairing Connaughton with Demetrius Jackson, Jerian Grant, Austin Burgett and Zach Auguste could lead to Notre Dame make a re-appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
