Notre Dame Football Recruiting
Kyle Brindza’s recording breaking career at Notre Dame is nearing its conclusion. Following this season, Brindza hopes to take his talents to the NFL. Although at times inconsistent, Brindza can be counted on to make field goals late. He also has quite a leg. Brindza tied a Notre Dame record for the longest field goal kicked with his 53-yard boot against Arizona State.
Notre Dame needs a kicker to replace his production in 2015. Carrollton High School prospect Tyler Newsome signed with Notre Dame last February. He was primarily recruited as a punter but has the capacity to be a kicker at the collegiate level. However, Notre Dame could utilize another specialist so Newsome can focus on primarily on punting.
This is probably why Notre Dame offered Milton, Massachusetts Kicker Justin Yoon.
Yoon holds offers from Boston College, Notre Dame and Texas A&M.
In 2013, Yoon made 9 field goals on 11 attempts with a long 48 yards. He was 38 out 39 on extra points.
The video clearly shows that Yoon has plenty of leg. He can make field goals from 50+ with room to spare. Additionally, Yoon shows that he can be a weapon on kickoffs.
Should teams offer scholarships to kickers? It depends on the player. Is the player truly a weapon that will affect the game or are they a play who will do the kicking? Yoon appears to be a weapon that will give Notre Dame an advantage in Special Teams, like Kyle Brindza.
