The elite prospect camp “Irish Invasion” may already be paying dividends for the Fighting Irish coaching staff. The Irish have not received a commitment from a prospect at the camp. But, following the camp, Palm Beach Gardens Linebacker Tevon Coney named Notre Dame and Florida as co-leaders.
Tevon Coney is one of the top Inside Linebacker prospects in the country. Coney checks in at 6’2″ 225 lbs. 247Sports, Rivals, ESPN and Scout rank Coney as the 11th, 9th, 19th and 12th at his position. In 2013, Coney tallied 172 tackles, 14 sacks, 2 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.
Coney holds offers from 28 offers including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Miami (FL), N.C. State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee and UCF.
The Fighting Irish currently hold a commitment from Merrillville, Indiana Linebacker Josh Barajas. Notre Dame could land another verbal on July 2nd from Cincinnati, Ohio Linebacker Justin Hilliard. Hilliard is currently deciding between Notre Dame and Ohio State. Commitments from Barajas, Hilliard and Coney would represent one of the best Linebacker classes that Notre Dame has ever landed.
However, that scenario is not likely. Many experts favor Coney selecting Florida. For Notre Dame to land both Hilliard and Coney, they will have to overcome in-state powers to do so.
Notre Dame currently holds 13 commitments in the class of 2015.
