Counting Down Notre Dame’s Starting Players: #22 Mike McGlinchey

This year, Notre Dame’s football team will be one of the youngest that Brian Kelly has ever had at Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are making slight adjustments on Offense and Defense. The Defense will likely operate with three Cornerbacks most of the time. Here are Notre Dame’s players ranked 1-22, starting with #22:

22. Mike McGlinchey – Right Tackle – Sophomore

McGlinchey possesses prototypical size for an Offensive Tackle at the collegiate and professional levels. McGlinchey may be great in 2014 but he did not see action in 2013. This makes it difficult to make to measure exactly what McGlinchey will do during his Sophomore campaign.

On the positive side, McGlinchey gained a year of experience, learning the playbook and making gains in the weight room. On the negative side, McGlinchey is only in his second year at Notre Dame. He probably is ready athletically but not physically. Translating it to Offensive Tackle terms, he will stop a speed rush and not a bull rush. Is he completely ready to play a full season at Notre Dame?

One thing that is important to note, Notre Dame has been great along the Offensive Line since Harry Heistand became the Notre Dame Offensive Line Coach.
