Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Jashon Cornell Set To Announce

Cretin-Durham Hall Defensive End Jashon Cornell is set to announce on Wednesday, July 2nd at 10:00 a.m. on ESPN. Cornell will select between finalists Iowa, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State. However, he is likely selecting between Michigan State, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Cornell checks in at 6’4″ 260 lbs. 247Sports rates Cornell as a 5-star prospect. Additionally, they rank him as the 5th best Weakside Defensive End and 32nd overall prospect in the 2015 class. He holds 30 offers overall.

In 2012, Cornell collected 52 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. In 2013, he tallied 70 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 1 fumble recovery for touchdown.

Cornell is one of the most important recruits on Notre Dame’s board. However, he will likely not select Notre Dame. Cornell has not visited South Bend since April 10th. Since that time, he visited Northwestern, Michigan State and Ohio State. Likely, he will select the Buckeyes on Wednesday morning.

Both Hilliard and Cornell are real long shots for ND against Ohio State. Cornell stated from the beginning he did not have a ton of interest in following other Cretin players to South Bend. Most experts have both as a lock to OSU, so not sure why Irish fans keep getting these posts.
