“The Opening” is the premiere camp event of the college recruiting season. It kicked off this week in Beaverton, Oregon. For the Quarterbacks, the Elite 11 began yesterday. Everett Golson stole the show at that event with an excellent morning session. Today, the SPARQ testing kicked of “The Opening” for the other players at the event.
One commitment from Notre Dame’s 2015 class participated in the SPARQ championship.
That commitment is C.J. Sanders. He is a kid actor turned athlete. Sanders currently plays for Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High School in California. 247Sports considers him as a 4-star recruit and the 39th best receiver in the country.
SPARQ is Nike’s formula for measuring how athletic certain players are in their respective sports.
Sanders leaped 38″ in the vertical jump to start off the evening. Sanders ran a 3.88 in agility shuttle. In the power toss, he threw the 3 kg medicine ball 37.5 feet. In the final event, the 40-yard dash, he ran a 4.50. Earlier in the day, he ran a 4.32. C.J. Sanders ended up with a score of 127.92 to finish 8th in the SPARQ Championship. Kirk Merritt, an athlete from Louisiana, won the event with a 148.83.
Notre Dame only had one other target in the championship, “big-skill” athlete Porter Gustin. He finished 10th in the championship
Slap the Sign will have more from “The Opening” tomorrow.
