Notre Dame Football: Counting Down Notre Dame's Starters #16 Ishaq Williams

This year, Notre Dame’s Football team will be one of the youngest that Brian Kelly has ever had at Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are making slight adjustments on Offense and Defense. The Defense will likely operate with three Cornerbacks most of the time. Here are Notre Dame’s players ranked 1-22, continuing with #16:

16. Ishaq Williams – Senior – Defensive End

It is hard to believe that Ishaq Williams was the 16th overall recruit in the 2011 class. He was the top recruit for the Fighting Irish that year.

During his career at Notre Dame, Williams has played in 35 games, not starting 1. He has tallied 45 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.

Williams will undergo a major shift in VanGorder’s scheme. In the 3-4, Williams played as a CAT Linebacker. In the 4-3, he will play at the Strongside Defensive End. Perhaps, the shift to a more aggressive scheme will allow him to make more plays.

If Notre Dame is going to win 10 or more games this season, Williams will need to play more like the player who was the 16th overall recruit in the nation. His career statistics need to be his 2014 statistics, at least. The fact that he has only collected 1 sack is mind boggling. His pass rush will need to improve as well.

Rankings To Date:

16. Ishaq Williams

17. Romeo Okwara

18. Corey Robinson

19. Joe Schmidt

20. Cole Luke

21. Max Redfield

22. Mike McGlinchey
