This year, Notre Dame’s Football team will be one of the youngest that Brian Kelly has ever had at Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are making slight adjustments on Offense and Defense. The Defense will likely operate with three Cornerbacks most of the time. Here are Notre Dame’s players ranked 1-22, continuing with #14:
Jarron Jones – Junior – Defensive Tackle
After redshirting his Freshman year, Jones was buried on Notre Dame’s depth chart. However, with injuries to Louis Nix and Kona Schwenke, Jones got an opportunity to shine. During the BYU game, he collected 7 tackles (4 solo, 3 assisted). In the Pinstripe Bowl, Jones collected his first career sack. He finished the 2012 season with 20 total tackles.
Now, Jones will be thrust into starting lineup permanently. It is critical that he plays up to potential. Notre Dame lacks depth along the Defensive Line. Backing up Jones are Junior Chase Hounshell and Sophomore Jacob Matuska. His conditioning will have to be superb because he will not get a lot of help from the backups.
Can Jones become a great, dominate player like Louis Nix III? Nix delivered 50 tackles (30 assisted, 20 solo), 7.5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks in 2012. Can Jones mimic these types of numbers?
