Weak-Side Defensive End Keisean Lucier-South scheduled an official visit for Notre Dame on October 4th. However, he cut Notre Dame with his most recent Top 5 list. Yesterday, he announced a Top 5 (no order) of Oregon, Florida, UCLA, Michigan and Oklahoma. The announcement of his Top 5 effectively cancels his official visit to Notre Dame.
Keisean Lucier-South ranks among the nation’s best. 247Sports ranks him as the 30th best prospect in the country. The world wide leader in sports, ESPN, tabs Lucier-South as the 28th best player in the nation. Finally, Rivals places him as the 35th best recruit in the 2015 class. He holds offers from some of college football’s elite programs including Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Texas and USC.
This significantly hampers Notre Dame’s search for their next great Defensive End. The focus will now center around Armwood High School Defensive End Byron Cowart. He also ranks among the nation’s elite. Rivals considers him the nation’s top recruit. Salem, Utah’s Porter Gustin also remains an excellent option for the Irish.
Lucier-South was unlikely to select the Irish even with an official visit. He may favor the Wolverines as his final destination. However, official visits (any visits for that matter) improve the chances of landing recruits. This lessens Notre Dame’s chances of landing an elite Defensive End prospect.
