After redshirting his freshman year due to a broken femur from a U.S Army All-American Bowl practice last year, Torii Hunter Jr. is going to miss 4-6 weeks of action after suffering a Grade 3 groin tear.
It was reported that Hunter Jr. was seen on the Irish’s first day of on-campus practice with crutches. Hunter Jr. is currently competing for the third receiver position with fellow Irish C.J Prosise and Amir Carlisle.
Coming out of high school, Hunter Jr. was rated the 95th player in the nation in ESPN’s top 300. As a senior at Prosper High School (Texas), he hauled in 71 passes for 1,235 yards and 14 touchdowns. He clearly has the ability to make explosive plays when he’s in the open field, but the issue so far has been getting on the field.
If all goes as planned with his recovery plan, Torii Hunter will have a chance to make his mark as an Irish as soon as week two against rival Michigan.
