Notre Dame Football: Counting Down Notre Dame’s Starters: #8 Nick Martin

This year, Notre Dame’s Football team will be one of the youngest that Brian Kelly has ever had at Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are making slight adjustments on Offense and Defense. The Defense will likely operate with three Cornerbacks most of the time. Here are Notre Dame’s players ranked 1-22, continuing with #8

Nick Martin – Senior – Center

There have been numerous pairs of brothers that have played together in sports, but the Martin brothers might go down as one of the best. Nick Martin, younger brother of Zack Martin, is the leader of the offensive line this year much like his brother was his senior year. Younger brother Nick originally committed to the University of Kentucky only to flip his commitment to Notre Dame for the chance to play with his brother. Soaking up everything his brother taught him, Nick has taken the baton from Zack and did not fumble the exchange.

In 2013, Nick Martin started the first 11 games of the season only to be lost to a knee injury during the BYU game. Until that injury Martin played like a seasoned vet and helped solidify the middle of the O-line. After nine months of recovery Martin is getting back in the saddle and knocking what little rust has formed during his time away. Clearly destined to be named one of the captains of this Notre Dame squad once fall camp concludes. Not only will Martin anchor the line, but he will also act as the “quarterback” directing traffic and making sure proper assignments are being picked up.
