This year, Notre Dame’s Football team will be one of the youngest that Brian Kelly has ever had at Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are making slight adjustments on Offense and Defense. The Defense will likely operate with three Cornerbacks most of the time. Here are Notre Dame’s players ranked 1-22, continuing with #6:
Tarean Folston – Sophomore – Running Back
Last year the Notre Dame running attack was looking for the feature back to take hold of the starting position after the departure of backs Theo Riddick and Cierre Wood. The only returning player with any experience at the running back position was George Atkinson and that was limited action. Coming into the program that year were two highly recruited prospects with Greg Bryant and Tarean Folston. Greg Bryant ended up taking a redshirt season due to a knee injury that opened the door for Folston to get more reps.
Folston was used sparingly during the beginning of the season because of a lower body injury and lack to knowledge of the offensive scheme. During his freshman season Folston managed to rack up 470 yards on just 88 carries setting a record for freshman singe-season rushing yards. He also set another freshman season record for single-game rushing yards with 140 against Navy on November 2nd.
The Irish backfield this season will more than likely be a running back committee with Folston, Byant and Cam Mcdaniel sharing reps. Even though he will not be getting all the carries it is going to be Folston listed number one on the depth chart. He could easily double his production from last year with the addition of dual threat quarterback Everett Golson.
