Is there a possible transfer brewing with Notre Dame tight end Tyler Luatua?

Notre Dame Twitter got a little buzzy Thursday afternoon as rumors of a possible transfer for tight end Tyler Luatua started popping up all over the place. It appears that most of the noise was thanks to this tweet from a BYU writer:

So, of course this has to be true… right? Well, that me be the case, but this is where things start to get a little fuzzzy in terms of what is actually going on.

Okay, so there may be something to this as we have no idea what is going on in the mind of Tyler Luatua, and if this type of thing has been around for the past few weeks then maybe there is some truth here.

At the moment, however, nothing official (or even unofficial) has actually surfaced from Notre Dame, Notre Dame sources, or Tyler Luatua himself.

If these rumors do end up being true, here are a few notes to keep in mind:

  • Tyler Luatua is as close to being a fullback as Notre Dame has right now.
  • He has ZERO receptions.
  • He has ZERO rushing attempts.
  • Notre Dame does fairly well in tight end recruiting.
  • He is on a depth chart with Nic Weishar, Durham Smythe, and Alize Jones.
  • Notre Dame currently has 2 tight ends committed for the 2017 recruiting class.

Irish fans probably won’t have to wait too long before they hear the news one way or another. With signing day and spring ball just right around the corner, any decision that Luatua would make will probably be made before both events.
