Jaylon Smith finally got his name called in the NFL Draft.

The long wait and the uncertainty for Jaylon Smith is finally over after Dallas “took a risk” early in the second round. Smith had suffered a major knee injury, in the Fiesta Bowl game against Ohio State after a shove from Buckeye lineman, Taylor Decker. The “shove” was legal as the whistle hadn’t blown yet, but it was quite some distance from the actual play.

Ever since that fateful day in the desert, Smith has been in limbo as to where his draft stock actually was and where he would finally end up once his name was called.

There were all sorts of conflicting reports about the injury itself after Smith flew down to Dallas to have the Cowboys team doctor perform the actual surgery in January. Questions about the nerve damage and if there was nerve damage and if that nerve damage would heal properly- and so on and so on.

This is after all, a player that many have stated that when healthy, he was the best player in the entire draft. Not one of the best- THE best. The emotional toll it took on Smith and his family was most likely far more than they ever let the public see. If you need proof of that, this video of Jaylon getting the phone call from Dallas to end the misery should suffice.

You could feel the emotion from Jaylon once he got the good news. You could feel the emotion from the Dallas Cowboy War Room as they delivered it. EVERYONE is happy. Jaylon Smith is an all world talent, but he is also just a normal kid- and truly a great person. He deserves every bit of this happy night.

As for any naysayers that doubt he can return to form and question Dallas’s decision, this is nothing more than trading your second round pick this year for a first round pick next year, which always a risk as well. Kudos to dallas for making a bold move, and one that could pay them back tenfold in the long haul.
