Corey Robinson Makes Yet Another Smart Decision

Notre Dame football star Corey Robinson, becomes Notre Dame star student full-time.

In the end, Corey Robinson made the right decision. How could he not? After all, this is the son of an NBA legend that is known throughout the world as a good and honorable person. David Robinson and his wife did what many celebrity and/or athletic households could only dream of, and that was to raise an amazing person with a wide array of interests and talents.

Corey Robinson has been on the fast track to success since his high school days, and he has done it by making one good decision after another. His latest decision should come as no surprise to anyone that has been paying attention.

Robinson will forgo his final year of eligibility and elect to not play football during his senior year. Concussions are the main cause and reason for this decision, as it has become crystal clear that Corey Robinson has an unbelievably bright future away from the game of football.

Too much has been learned and too little is still understood about the effects of football and concussions, but with all that Robinson has in front of him, there is no need to risk any further damage.

While myself and many others will applaud Robinson for making yet another smart decision in his young life, I can’t help but feel a tremendous amount of sympathy to the young men in college football (and in the NFL) that feel (and with a whole lot of conviction) that the best and perhaps their only route to secure a future for themselves and their family is to keep playing regardless of the risk.

Corey Robinson is not Luther “Shark” Lavay in search of his million dollar payday on the field, he’s a scholar in search of that billion dollar life. He should be thanked and congratulated, but what did we expect? Robinson makes yet another smart decision, the real question is if others will be able to learn from him and make similar choices for their health and their future life.
