Is Notre Dame and Under Armour serious with these Shamrock Series unis?

A few months ago I predicted that the 2016 Shamrock Series uniforms would be the worst ones yes, and unfortunately I was right. I for one am excited that there is no Shamrock Series game next season because maybe, just maybe that means Notre Dame and it’s fans won’t be subjected to another atrocious uniform design. The newest Shamrock Series design was unveiled yesterday and I personally think it might be the worst one of them all.

They look like something that the University of South Florida would wear. If it weren’t for the Notre Dame stitched across the uniform top, the interlocking ND on the pants or the “God, Country, Notre Dame” I would assume that it would be a uniform that South Florida would wear. It just isn’t Notre Dame at all. When I think of Notre Dame I think of blue and gold, not green and gold or green and blue. They’re blue and gold, it even says it in the Victory March.

The worst part of the uniform is the helmet. The helmet is what probably makes me hate the design the most. The gold on the helmet does not match the gold on the jersey top or the pants. If there is one part of the ND uniform you can’t mess with it’s the helmet, and since the inception of the Shamrock Series uniform they have messed with the helmet every year, and every year it’s been terrible.

The other problem I have with it is that these uniforms are very reminiscent of Northwestern’s gothic style unis. It just seems like Under Armour used the same template of Northwestern’s, made it green and gold and gave it to Notre Dame. It’s actually not very unique at all.

While I do not approve and I do not like the Shamrock Series uniforms, they could have been a lot worse (thats a scary thought). Before yesterday there was speculation that the uniforms could have been all gold, all green or even camo. Thank God the camo didn’t happen.

Notre Dame already has one of the best and most classic uniform designs in all of sports. Personally I put it right up there with the Yankees, Cowboys and any of the Original Six hockey teams. If you have something so great, why mess with it? I know people will say it’s for recruiting purposes to try and attract kids to come to Notre Dame, but look at Alabama, LSU or Oklahoma. Those schools consistently have top ranked recruiting classes and I don’t see them rolling out ugly alternate uniforms. I just don’t believe that having alternate uniforms creats that big of an impact on recruiting.

I just have one last thing to say. Notre Dame, you have a great uniform…stick with it.
