No one has as high of a demand as Notre Dame

For all the talk over the past 15 years about Notre Dame football being relevant or not in the college football world, one would think that they wouldn’t be in that high of demand. In the words of Lee Corso, “not so fast my friend!” It turns out that Notre Dame is still the biggest draw of them all, and it’s by a wide margin.

Yesterday Marketwatch.com released a story on which college football teams demand the biggest increase in ticket prices while playing on the road. Notre Dame came in first by a country mile. According to Marketwatch, a visit from the Notre Dame football team to your town can increase ticket prices by 96%! NINETY-SIX! The next closest schools are Michigan and Penn State, and when I say closest it’s not even that close. A visit from Michigan or Penn State and ticket prices can increase by 68% and 67% respectively.

More from Notre Dame Football

Looking at this information and thinking about Notre Dame’s current scheduling arrangement with the ACC, it gets me thinking that the schools in the ACC like Syracuse, NC State and Virginia have to love when Notre Dame comes to town. Not only do they get to play on a national stage, but they’re making a boatload more of money in the process. On top of making more money and gaining more recognition, they don’t have to worry about Notre Dame impeding on their quest for an ACC championship. So in a sense, ACC teams get to have their cake and eat it too.

Last season when Notre Dame traveled to Clemson it was reported that it was the hottest ticket Clemson had in the last five seasons. The average resale price was around $320 dollars.

One I found interesting from this article that doesn’t have much to do with Notre Dame, but I thought it was worth mentioning, is where Alabama stands on this list. You’d think that Alabama would have the highest demand since they’ve won the four of the last seven national titles, but they simply don’t. According to the Marketwatch article, a visit from Alabama increases ticket prices by only 48%. Thats less than Clemson and Oregon, two schools that don’t have nearly as much football tradition as Alabama.

For the all the criticism Notre Dame gets for not really winning anything in the past 20 years, their brand seems to be as strong as ever as they seem to drive up ticket prices wherever they go.
