We’re closing in on 10 days until Notre Dame football assembles for its preseason training camp. Here’s all the specifics on when, where and what you can see from that.

NFL preseason camps have already begun, with the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts kicking things off this week, and college football is not far behind. Unfortunately, details regarding Notre Dame’s training camp schedule and availability have been somewhat scarce. That’s why we’re here to keep you informed.

Who?

All of Notre Dame football of course. The team has worked out some over the course of this summer.

But this will be the first time everyone’s back together and prepping for the 2016 season.

When and where?

Training camp begins Aug. 6 at Culver Military Academy, in Culver, Indiana, a little over 40 miles from Notre Dame Stadium. Brian Kelly will address the media on Aug. 5 at Notre Dame, so circle that date as well.

The Irish will be in Culver from Aug. 6 to Aug. 10. It’s the third straight year Notre Dame is holding its camp at the academy.

Practice on day one is open to the media, and key players will be available for interviews afterwards. After that though, there will be no media access whatsoever.

The team will return to campus Aug. 11, and Kelly will again have a press conference that day, followed by more player interviews the following day. Beyond that, Notre Dame has not yet announced details for the rest of the preseason camp.

Why should I care?

Beyond the obvious fact that this marks the return of Notre Dame football for 2016, camp also means the return of the quarterback battle between Malik Zaire and DeShone Kizer. Blue and Gold Illustrated interviewed Brian Kelly a month ago, and he was pretty clear that he does not expect that competition to extend into the regular season, so both QBs have to get to work right away.

There are also a number of other positional battle to watch out for, including running back, wide receiver, offensive line, linebacker and safety. Look out for our full training camp preview later this week.
