Notre Dame football has one of the nation’s best recruiting classes of 2017, and Slap the Sign wants to say – Welcome to South Bend!

Class of 2021, welcome. Welcome to a program full of history, passion, and tradition. Where college football stars are made, and legacy begin. You want to be remembered? Good, you came to the right place.

You join a school with 11 National Championships, looking for their 12th. Seven Heisman Trophy winners have walked in and out of this program, and you, my friend, can be the eighth. As the 11th ranked class of 2017, you have the potential to be great. Whether you will be is up to you.

Win, and you’ll be loved. There are no greater fans in sports than Irish fans. We bleed blue and gold and now, so do you. Losing isn’t an option in South Bend. Notre Dame demands winners, but that isn’t a problem. Each one of you is a winner. You’ve proven it.

Notre Dame football has plenty of legends. Fans, as well as players, coaches, and everyone on campus can name them. You want to be one of them? Of course, you do, that’s why you chose to put on the gold helmet. Here’s a little advice – Follow the sign.

“Play Like a Champion Today” isn’t just a saying, it’s a lifestyle. Every time you step on the field you play for your teammates, your family, your coaches, and all of Notre Dame Nation, both past, and present.

How you leave South Bend is up to you. People remember the greats. But they also remember the busts. You all walk onto the field with a fresh sleet. No one wants to be known as a bust, and right now, you’re known as nothing. You create your destiny. You weren’t asked to come here for nothing. Someone, somewhere believes you’re full of greatness. Prove them right.

You are not part of something special. The success of this team comes directly from you. No matter what your role is throughout your career, you earn each win just as much as the next guy. Irish fans are counting on you. Right now, we’re ready for a return to glory. With all of you, our hopes are high.

No matter what you do here, you are engraved in Notre Dame history. You will be loved at times and hated at times, but will never be forgotten.
