Notre Dame has being pursuing Ohio defensive end standout Malik Vann for quite some time.

Malik Vann is a dominant defensive end who was invited to, and participated in, the Future 50 skills camp which was held at the 2017 Under Armour All-American Camp. It was an invite only event for the top ’18 recruits in the nation.

He performed very well at the event. There were whispers by some that he may have been the best defensive end there.

Malik Vann shows really good strength and technique. He bursts off the line and knows how to use leverage as well as his hands efficiently to get off blocks.

Although he stands only 6’1.5, his 255 pound frame, array of high level pass rush moves and high motor make you forget all about his height.

With Notre Dame recruiting blowing up lately and Malik Vann’s name consistently popping up in discussions throughout the fan base, I got a chance to ask Vann some questions about his recruitment and how it relates to the Fighting Irish.

With his weight being reported at anywhere from 240-265, I asked Malik how much he’s currently weighing in at and if he has a goal weight in the future.

“I’m 255 and this weight is fine with me,” Vann explained.

I asked him what he thought of Notre Dame and their huge ’18 recruiting class. Here’s what he had to say.

“It’s a great program and a school with rich tradition. (Their recruiting class), it’s absolutely insane and it’s only getting started.”

I asked him which recruits he has been hearing from regarding Notre Dame.

“I’m hearing from Markese (Stepp), the (Ademilola) twins and Ovie (Oghoufo) pretty often and all of them (are recruiting me hard),” Vann stated.

I asked Vann if he gets pressure from people around him to go to an in-state like Cincinnati or Ohio State. His answer was short and simple.

“No, not at all.”

Malik told me that he plans on committing in May or June and here is what he had to say when I asked him about cutting down a list.

“There’s not a top list because offers are still being handed out but the official list should come out next month or April.”

Vann then went on to talk about the coaching staff at Notre Dame.

“Elston is a great man that I respect a lot and he’s a good coach. Mike Elko, I haven’t met him but he has a nice track record for his defenses.”

I then asked Vann which schools had been recruiting him the hardest. He named four.

“Notre Dame, Michigan State, Wisconsin and now Cincinnati.”

Malik Vann, who’s interested in studying criminal justice, finished by telling me what football means to him.

“It means everything. I started playing this game when I was 5. Can’t imagine life without it.”

Here is Malik Vann’s impressive junior season Hudl highlights.

There’s a lot to like about Malik Vann’s game. He’s a very polished athlete. I believe with his physical nature, technique and natural talent, Vann will be a fantastic defensive lineman at the college level.

Malik is clearly interested in Notre Dame and has visited campus multiple times. Defensive end is also a position of need and fans certainly have been talking about him often.
