Chase Williams thought of his late Irish grandfather when Notre Dame offered him a scholarship.

As you can see in Chase Williams tweet, he stated “RIPPAPA.”

This made me curious as to what he meant. I figured there was probably a family related story to go along with his excitement for the Irish offer. I spoke with Williams and asked him about his tweet. Here’s what he told me.

“My grandpa had passed away two years ago and so that was his favorite school. It was a sentimental offer for me and my family because I know he was watching over me and how proud he would be of me.”

When I watched his film, I couldn’t help but notice that Chase is also a very productive and impressive defensive back for his high school program. Chase talked to me about that.

“I play corner for my high school. I’m not looking just to play receiver. If they want me to play defense, I would be glad to. I have no problem playing DB, actually, I’d love to play DB as well.”

Chase Williams then explained to me who had been in contact with him from Notre Dame and what they had to say to him.

“I spoke to Polian and coach Del Alexander too. I like them both. They’re both two very good coaches. They said they really liked my film. They had been following me for a little while. They asked me a few questions about my family life and things like that.”

It seems that Brian Polian and DelVaughn Alexander have been teaming up on recruiting talented wide receivers from the California area. This should help Notre Dame greatly in regards to landing top talent from the west coast.

I then asked Williams about his recruitment and who had been recruiting him the hardest so far. Here’s what he told me.

“So far, Washington, USC, UCLA and Arizona, not just in the last few weeks but over time.”

Considering Notre Dame just offered, they may join the list of most aggressive recruiters in the future.

Williams then spoke about his upcoming visits.

“I’m going to be visiting UCLA this weekend. I leave Sunday. Other trips, I’m going to try to visit Arizona State and Arizona during spring break. I haven’t planned a trip to Notre Dame because I just got the offer yesterday but me and my mom are planning on making a trip soon.”

"“I love Notre Dame more than words can explain. I don’t know how to explain it.”"

A few other notes; Williams says that distance isn’t a factor in his decision and he wants to study something in the medical field, possibly kinesiology.

Keep your eye on this one. Notre Dame will likely be pushing hard for this kid. He would be a great addition to the all ready stacked ’18 class and be a nice compliment to current commits Braden Lenzy and Micah Jones.
