Maryland defensive tackle, Ja’mion Franklin to visit Notre Dame – March 24-25.

I spoke with Ja’mion Franklin on the weekend about how he had been hearing from the Notre Dame coaching staff regularly.

He was very excited about it and had a lot of great things to say about the program as a whole.

I contacted the 310 pound brute force today and he informed me of his visit.

“I’m going to be up there in South Bend on the 24th and 25th,” he told me.

“I’m pretty sure I’m going to stay the night up there.”

He went on to explain how the visit came about.

“I’ve been in contact with Coach Lea and Coach Elko and I talked to my head coach and we talked and those days are going to be good for me to get on campus.”

"“About ten minutes ago, Coach Brian Kelly followed me on Twitter. That’s not a bad notification to get while you’re just eating with your family.”"

Ja’mion Franklin is very close with his head coach from North Caroline High School, James McCormick. He’s very involved with his development as a player as well as gives him guidance within his recruitment. Here’s what he had to say.

“He’s a great coach. I’ve learned a lot from that guy. He’s been doing a lot for me lately and I appreciate it. He has a family of his own and it’s the off season, so he does a lot for me and I appreciate it.”

Ja’mion then spoke to me about what he’s looking forward to during his visit at Notre Dame.

“I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the players and interacting with a few of them. Seeing how all the coaches are with the players, their coaching style. Just getting the feel of the Notre Dame campus and tradition while I’m there.”

Ja’mion Franklin has flown under the radar for most of his career but has been receiving interest from a lot of strong Power 5 programs lately, including the ’16 National Champions.

“I’m going to be visiting Clemson on Saturday for a Junior Day. I’m excited. They’re inviting me, so I’m going to go down there and take it all in.”

So far, the Irish have Jayson Ademilola committed to play defensive tackle but the Irish are certainly still shopping for more solid players at the position. Franklin would fill a big need at the nose tackle position.
