Notre Dame offered Georgia running back Lyn-J Dixon on Sunday.

The Irish coaching staff extended their search for a second running back on Sunday by offering 5’10, 185 pound running back Lyn-J Dixon of Butler, Georgia. The talented running back ran for nearly 2,000 yards while scoring 35 touchdowns as a junior in ’16.

His impressive play has landed him offers from several strong SEC programs like Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Tennessee and Auburn. Outside of the SEC, he has offers from Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Minnesota, Clemson and South Carolina.

Dixon may have interest in Tennessee as he has camped there as well as attended their Junior Day on March 4.

Dixon is a flashy, highlight reel type back. He isn’t the bigger, bruising, tackle-breaking back that current commit Markerse Stepp is, but that’s one reason why he would be a nice addition as he would add a nice dynamic to the backfield.

Dixon has impressive skills in terms of being elusive. Wrapping him up and taking him down is a tough task, even in close quarters. He posseses a nasty spin move and shows a natural ability to juke and jump-cut his way through a defense. He’s a lot of fun to watch.

Dixon shows great explosion out of his cuts. He tends to bounce runs outside when he doesn’t like what he sees in the middle of the field, which can be frowned upon at times.

That being said, he reaches top speed quickly and makes quick decisions on where he wants to take the ball, which make his perimeter runs a thing of beauty.

As he matures and adds strength, he should add toughness between the tackles. When that happens, he will be a very effective multi-purpose back.

There isn’t a lot of film of Dixon catching the ball out of the backfield but he does make some big plays as a punt returner. His explosiveness, elusiveness and quickly reached top gear suggest that he may do well at the college level in the return game.

Notre Dame has added a few backs to their board lately and also have an upcoming visit with another talented Georgia running back, Christian Turner. With roster spots thin in a talent-loaded class while having many needs to be addressed across their roster, only one more running back should be taken in this class.

It will be interesting to see which running back ends up Irish. Notre Dame would be getting a very talented and crowd-pleasing talent if Dixon comes to South Bend.
