Notre Dame extended an offer to Dax Hollifield on February 8, 2017 after he had released his truly impressive junior season highlights. I checked in with Dax on Tuesday night to see how his recruitment is coming along.

“Coach Lea texts me everyday. So, I’m in contact with him daily. It slowed down a little bit, but everyone is still going strong and trying to recruit really hard,” said Dax.

Hollifield went on to talk about his admitation of Notre Dame’s new linebacker coach, Clark Lea.

“I like that he’s a young coach and he’s a very smart coach. Considering his age, it’s pretty crazy all the stuff he knows and how good he is. He’s just an incredible coach. What he did at Wake Forest with that talent, it’s crazy to think what he can do with Notre Dame at their talent level,” explained Hollifield.

Dax Hollifield is very in tune with Wake Forest football as he’s not only from North Carolina but his father played there as well.

His father is very involved in his athletics. He coaches the Shelby High School basketball team, that Dax plays on, as well as the defensive line of the Varsity football team. I asked Dax what it’s like to play for his father.

“It’s hard, to be honest with you,” he said with a chuckle. “He has high expectations of me because I’m his son. That’s exactly what it is. He’s an athlete. He played nose guard at Wake Forest from ’87 to ’91.”

Dax and his father have been on a huge number of campus visits and are scheduled to see more in the upcoming months.

“Next week, I’m going down to Florida State and Florida. I’m also going to watch Florida’s spring game, April 1. The upcoming week, I’m going to Alabama and LSU. I still have Stanford and Notre Dame planned too, but I don’t know when I’m going to do that.”

“I’m very excited. They’re great. That’s four of your college football holy grail right there,”

Dax Hollifield has had video game-like numbers during his 3 year career totalling 462 tackles, 107 tackles for loss, 32 sacks, 3 interceptions, 5 passes defended, 4 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 3 blocked field goals.

Truly unbelievable numbers.

There’s clearly strong competition for Dax’s signature, but Clark Lea is in close contact and has left a solid impression on one of the nations top linebackers, Dax Hollifield.
