Sky-high ceiling defensive end Jason Bargy will visit Notre Dame.

Momence, Illinois is home of one of the best sophomore football players in the country, Jason Bargy. The 6’4, 235 pound two-way star has outstanding physical tools.

Bargy plays defensive end and running back for Momence High School and shows that he’s truly a man among boys on the gridiron. At running back, his freakish speed, natural strength and athleticism are simply too much for defenses to handle in his public school division.

Defensively, being only a sophomore, Bargy’s skill set is unrefined. That being said, his god-given talent shows up in big ways for big plays. For his age, his raw style is certainly typical

He’s clearly still learning the finer points of the game and figuring out his massive frame, but if he continues to develop his skill set and mature more physically, Bargy will continue to dominate the competition and could become one of the most elite talents in the country.

According to Bargy, the Notre Dame coaching staff have taken notice of his intriguing potential.

“About two weeks ago, on a Friday, they called my coach and told me to come out of class. They took me in a room and put me on the phone with the coach. It was a recruiter, then the recruiter transferred me over to the D line coach,” said Bargy

“He said he really liked my film and that Sophomore Day is coming up at Notre Dame and that they really wanted me to come down there,” added Bargy. “I’m going down there with my coach and my dad.”

Bargy has always been far more developed than his peers from a physical standpoint. He explained to me how it got in the way of playing the position he wanted to play as a youngster.

“I like playing defense but in the junior leagues, I always wanted to be a running back, but I wasn’t able to play it because everybody always said I was too big,” explained Bargy. “That’s why I started playing running back.”

Given his versatile skill set, I asked Bargy which position he could see him see himself playing. “In college, I could see myself playing linebacker,” Bargy said, “I could play outside linebacker or middle.”

I asked him how he would feel about getting an offer from the Irish. “That would be good, to receive an offer from them. I’m interested in Notre Dame, so I want to go down there and see what it’s like in the campus, tour the facilities, see what it’s like down there,” answered Bargy.

In closing, Bargy spoke to me about his off-season preparation.

“I’ve been working on our plays, working out and getting stronger in the weight room. I’ve been improving in a lot of ways, offense, defense and all around. The coach might try me out at linebacker and see what goes on there, but I’ll still play D end and running back of course.”
