Chase Williams will be on campus Wednesday with his mother.

Notre Dame will host one of the hottest recruits from the west on Wednesday. The Irish offered Williams on February 21 and I caught up with him shortly afterward to find out that Notre Dame is an important school to his family in that his late grandfather was a lifelong fan of the Irish.

Since the offer, Williams has remained in close contact with Notre Dame staff and will meet them in person before visiting Ohio State the next day and Arizona State on April 7.

I contacted Chase to get his thoughts regarding his upcoming visit to South Bend, which he will make with his mother. “I’m really excited and she’s excited too. I’m looking forward to just seeing the culture there and the environment, seeing how they coach,” stated Williams.

As there has been chatter of Chase Williams possibly playing defensive back for the Irish, I asked him if playing in the defensive backfield was a possibility for him at the college level. “I don’t mind playing DB at all. I’d love too and I think I’d be successful at that position,” answered Williams.

When Williams is talked about in the media, at times, he is referred to as a receiver without mention of his admirable play on the defensive side of the ball. In his film (shown above), Williams certainly shows he has the instincts, fundamentals, and speed to be effective as a defensive back.

Williams finished with a top 10 score at defensive back at the Los Angeles Opening Regional a few weeks ago.

As Notre Dame are looking for both receivers and defensive backs, it’s hard to say which position they are recruiting him to play. Of course, considering how talented and polished he is at both positions, Notre Dame would be excited to add him to their class regardless.
