After one of the best season’s in Notre Dame basketball history, Bonzie Colson was named Third-Team All-American.

Colson, Notre Dame’s junior forward, was one of the most impressive big men in the ACC this season. His double-double average, 17.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, led Notre Dame. As he was the star player on the Irish’s ACC title game run, he was quickly turning a team no body believed in into a conference contender.

Colson was joined by other star big men, Dillion Brooks, who made Second-Team, and Johnathan Motley, who also made Second-Team. The rest of the Third-Team includes Kansas’s Josh Jackson, Washington’s Markelle Fultz, Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ, and Arizona’s Lauri Markkanen.

In some of Notre Dame’s toughest games, Colson was the backbone for the Irish. In their NCAA Tournament loss to West Virginia, Colson put up 27 points and eight rebounds while shooting 10-15 and hitting four out of his five three pointers.

Colson hasn’t made his NBA Draft decision yet. Although some general managers believe he could be a potential first-round pick in the 2017 draft, no one is certain whether a team is willing to take a shot on him. His unique size and physical ability put him in a strange position in the pros. No one knows where he’ll play on the floor at the next level, which makes some teams weary to draft him early.

Colson should be making his decision within the upcoming weeks. If he returns, he will return with Matt Farrell, Rex Pfleuger, T.J. Gibbs, Matt Ryan and others. The Fighting Irish will also add freshman, DJ Harvey.

Colson making the All-American team is back-to-back players from Notre Dame over the last two seasons. Joining Jerian Grant, Colson is looking to carry his success into whatever chapter he chooses next.
