David Alston has several Ivy League scholarship offers.

David Alston may be a new name to many but it is very possible that he becomes a commonly mentioned athlete. At 6’5, 225-pounds, Alston certainly has the size you want to see and if you have a look at his offer list, you’ll see he most definitely has the smarts.

The St. Paul, Minnesota star has 15 offers, including Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, Air Force, Utah, Iowa State, Wyoming and more. Considering his academic strength and intriguing skill-set, I reached out to him yesterday to talk football and recruiting.

“I’ve been playing football since I can remember. My dad played at Rice so I’ve always had the goal to play college football,” Alston explained. “It was going slow until I started to pick up more attention, then things began to heat up,” he added, referring to his recruitment.

Alston spoke about how he was involved in many other sports in the past but has trimmed his list of sports down significantly in order to focus football. “I started for the basketball team this year and I used to throw shot and discus but I didn’t this year to focus on training,” said Alston.

He spoke to me about his recent contact with the Irish staff. “Notre Dame has been sending me mail and I’ve talked with coach Rees. They invited me out to spring practice,” mentioned Alston.

“The campus is great. I went on a school trip to D.C. in middle school and we stopped and took a tour. They have a lot of winning tradition and they’re one of those names in college football that carry prestige athletically and academically,” Alston mentioned.

Alston is currently trying to decide on when he will make a trip to South Bend. “I probably won’t be able to make it out there this spring but I’d like to come to camp or just visit this summer,” he explained.

I asked Alston if he could see himself committing to Notre Dame if he were to get an offer. “Yes, I could. It’s a good school with a good football program,” he answered.

Alston addressed the Ivy League school offers that are stacking up within his list. “The Ivy League is a great opportunity, but this process has just recently picked up for me so I haven’t ruled out any options yet. I’m seeking the best mix of football and school I can find to put me in a position to be successful whether Ivy League or not,” stated Alston.

I asked Alston if he knew what he would like to study after high school. “Probably business,” he answered.

“I’m about 210 right now. I’m still gaining back the weight I lost from basketball,” explained Alston when I asked him about his current weight.

David Alston put together a great junior season, (film above). He shows explosion off of the snap, has good strength and a wide wingspan. Many will agree that his play, skill-set and measurables, outweigh his current rankings.

His 3.87 GPA, athleticism, size and work ethic should draw the attention of many strong college programs in the future and I wouldn’t be surprised if Notre Dame put out a strong effort to get him on campus.
