Long snapper, Scott Daly, and running back, Tarean Folston, are two names every Notre Dame football fan knows. In the NFL, though, they’re still waiting for teams to realize they’re available.

Neither of these two players were expected to be drafted. As a long snapper, chances were that Daly would have to try out for an NFL team before being placed on a roster. But heading into the draft as one of the top three long snappers in the class, expectations were that he would find a home relatively quickly following the draft’s conclusion.

For Folston, his NFL journey is in a little more danger. Coming into the draft, he was expected to be high on numerous teams’ undrafted list. Most felt that he would receive a call shortly after the draft inviting him to a rookie minicamp. No such call has been made, though, and Folston continues to wait to hear from NFL teams.

With the constant need for running backs in this league, it’s likely Folston finds a home eventually. Even if it’s on a practice squad for a year, some NFL team is going to give him a shot. He may not have had the best career at Notre Dame, but his potential is high enough to put him someone on a roster.

It could be closer to the preseason that Folston actually hears from teams, but even with the wait, some team is going to call. Once he’s actually in a uniform, though, he’ll have an extremely long journey before getting a chance to see a regular season NFL game.

For Daly, it’s going to be a bit longer of a shot for him to make it in the league. There’s usually only one long snapper on every team, meaning you need to be one of the top 32 guys to make the cut. Right now, there aren’t many teams looking his way, and that may not change this offseason.

At this point, he’s hoping for an unproductive offseason by a veteran long snapper so that a team will call him for a tryout. Once he gets it, he’ll need to show up strong in order to make the team. Without a solid outing, his NFL career could be over before it starts.

There’s still a ways to go before either of these two take the next step in their career. While they wait, they’ll be hoping other rookies don’t impress enough to earn a roster spot Folston and Daly wish to take.

Will these two ever find NFL homes? Possibly. Right now, though, their career is coming to a halt as they wait for form some glimpse of hope.
