Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey has signed a new contract extension. We look back at his most memorable games.

For head coach Mike Brey, this was a historic season. The accolades continue to pile up for the 23-year veteran coach. After wrapping up his 18th season at Notre Dame, the university announced that the head coach has signed a contract extension to coach Notre Dame basketball through the 2024-2025 season.

Starting off his career at Delaware, Brey made his impact right away. In only five seasons with the Fightin’ Blue Hens, the young gun coach came away with 99 wins. Delaware also had two NCAA Tournament berths thanks to two AEC regular season and conference tournament championships during Brey’s tenure. In his last two seasons, the Blue Hens posted an overall record of 49-14.

Back where they belong

That’s when Brey decided it was time to move up in the basketball world. His next stop — the University of Notre Dame. In 2000, Brey brought Notre Dame basketball back to the national scene.

From his 12 NCAA tournament appearances, two Elite Eight appearances, countless upsets and tournament championships; Brey has seemingly done it all. The loosest coach in America may just be one of the top basketball coaches in the country.

Brey has earned 502 overall wins with 403 of those while leading the Irish. One of his most memorable wins came on Jan. 3, 2018. After a dominant 88-58 victory over North Carolina State, Brey watched a banner be unveiled from the rafters.

That banner read “Coach Mike Brey Men’s Basketball All-Time Wins Leader”.

His 394th career win as Notre Dame’s men’s basketball coach surpassed that set by ND great, Digger Phelps. To this day, Phelps will let you know about Dwight Clay’s jumper in front of the UCLA bench that ended the Bruins 88-game win streak. Now, he’ll have to talk about it even more as Brey has the bragging rights of most wins in program history.

So in light of Brey’s newest contract, let’s take a look at the most memorable wins in his Notre Dame career.
