Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey has coached some special players during his tenure.

Coach Mike Brey took over coaching duties at Notre Dame basketball prior to the 2000-01 season. Before he arrived, the program had not been to an NCAA Tournament in a decade. Since his arrival, the Fighting Irish have had their dance card punched a dozen times in 18 years. In 14 of Brey’s seasons, the Irish have won 20 or more games and actually won 32 in 2014-15.

Brey’s success sometimes goes overlooked, but he has built a consistent and powerful program through recruiting four-year players that fit his system — or players that can be developed to over time to fit his system.

Many people in basketball circles refer to  this as “get old, stay old.”

That is not to say Coach Brey cannot recruit the higher-tier players. Current Notre Dame hybrid forward DJ Harvey is a former five star recruit, as was Juwan Durham.

Today, we take a look at the Top 10 players of the Mike Brey era. It had originally been discussed as being a Top 5 list, but after we started listing out some names, it was decided that I couldn’t do the program justice with only five names.
