Notre Dame has beaten USC for a third straight year and will continue to hold on to the Jeweled Shillelagh until at least next November.

Here are the defensive standouts from Saturday’s Notre Dame win over USC.

Honorable Mentions

Asmar Bilal

The fifth year senior showed up big time against USC. While you might not have realized it, if you were just listening to the announcers — as his name was not mentioned as much as it should have been — Bilal was all over the place on Saturday night. He totaled 11 tackles — two of which were for loss — and this was definitely one of his more impressive games this season. While there were a lot of questions heading into the season about the linebacker position, I believe its safe to say that Notre Dame is in good hands. Jamir Jones

The senior continues to come on strong since taking over for the injured Daelin Hayes. Jones has a sack in each of the three games he’s played in. Jones stepping up and playing like he is just proves how deep Notre Dame is at defensive end. I don’t expect Jones to let up on the way he is playing anytime soon either. I believe he is trying to prove he belonged on the field all along. Jones tallied two tackles — one being a sack — against the Trojans. For a full breakdown of Jones’s stats, click here.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah

Wu started the game off with a big hit/sack to give the Notre Dame defense a jolt of energy it would need to hold off the threat of USC’s receiving corps. Wu continues to impress and looks like he belongs out there on the field. He reminds me a bit of Te’von Coney with how physical he is. Wu totaled seven tackles and one sack against USC. Defensive Player of the Game

Khalid Kareem

The Senior captain was dominant against the Trojans. There was abundance of times when Kareem was in the USC backfield and closing in on the young USC quarterback. Notre Dame’s defensive line looked impressive for the most part —despite some struggles tackling the opposing running back— some of which is just due to the scheme they were playing to stop USC’s pass game.
