In 2012 Charlie Weis made almost double what Brian Kelly made from the University of Notre Dame. Last season Coach Kelly made $1,088,179 as the Head Football Coach at Notre Dame. Charlie Weis received a payment of $2,054,744 from the Irish including his salary from Kansas.

When Weis was fired in 2009 he received $6,638,403 right after. He has scheduled payments from Notre Dame annually through December 2015. After it is all said and done, The University of Notre Dame will have paid Weis almost 19 million dollars ($18,966,867 to be exact).

This just goes to show how very bad the contract extension that Weis received was and is. Notre Dame jumped the gun too early like times before and gave an average coach a huge contract. Don’t get me wrong Weis was a good recruiter and very good offensively, but when you can’t stop anyone it’s hard to win football games.

As for Coach Kelly he is still in the works with Notre Dame on getting himself a new contract, which after taking a team to the national championship game is deserved, but it still needs to be within reason. This upcoming year and 2014 are the years that Notre Dame should maintain what they did last year. BCS bowl bids will now be expected and nothing less. It was like that before, but now that expectation is much more realistic.

Today on Mike Golic’s radio show “The Best of Mike and Mike in the Morning” he reported that his son Jake Golic the 5th year senior will transfer to UC to play football in 2013. This comes at a bit of a surprise to me, just because of the rich Golic tradition at Notre Dame, but he has been buried on the depth chart since he has arrived on campus. There is just simply too much talent at the tight end position at Notre Dame. The name “Tight End U” is true year after year when they bring in 4-5 star caliber players and they continue to be drafted and successful in the NFL.

Jake will not be penalized for transferring, because he has already graduated from Notre Dame, but has eligibility left and he chose to use that at the University of Cincinnati. Gunner Kiel transferred to UC a little while back, but he won’t be able to suit up for the Bearcats this season. Let’s wish the best of luck to Jake Golic during his new journey as a part of the University of Cincinnati football team.

Coach Hoke said,

The Notre Dame, that rivalry, which they’re chickening out of … they’re still going to play Michigan State, they’ll play Purdue; they don’t want to play Michigan.

As everyone knows, Notre Dame will be joining the ACC in all sports except for football. There is a catch, because the Irish will play 5 ACC football teams each year. For some reason Michigan will not be on the Notre Dame Football schedule after 2014, which in my opinion isn’t right or what is best for college football. Michigan and Notre Dame are not only the two most winningest programs in the history of college football and not only that but both are top 30 in academics as well (Notre Dame 17th, Michigan 29th).

There are plenty of other opponents that the Irish could have dumped instead of Michigan. The Michigan game is always hyped and is one of the first major matchups of the football season. It is one of the greatest rivalries in college football today and to take that away from fans is just wrong. Is Notre Dame chickening out of the game? No not at all, but it can look like that from the outside. There could have been multiple disagreements on both sides about the game, but no one knows for sure. After 2014 the rivalry will go into hibernation, but I am almost positive it will be played once again someday.
