A local kid, David Perkins, has committed today to Notre Dame. He is a big, versatile player. At his school, Washington High School (located in South Bend, Ind), Perkins played running back, wide receiver, defensive end, and outside linebacker for Washington last season. He is thinking about playing outside linebacker for ND but he also believes there is a slight chance for him to play running back.

Ranked in the top 150 recruits for 2012 by ESPNU, David is sure to be a player Kelly would love to have. He does it all. Offense or defense, he puts his body on the line everyday. He chose the Irish over Michigan State, Mississippi State, Syracuse, and Tennessee. I’d say he made the right decision athletically and academically (no offense to the other schools).

Here’s what Perkins had to say about his decsion:

“It’s a very good opportunity. It’s a decision made for after football also. At the beginning of the process, I really had no interest in Notre Dame. With time, the relationship began to get better. They started to recruit me harder. They just grew on me the more I talked to them and visited them.”

What Perkins says above explains perfectly of how good of a job Coach Kelly is doing at recruiting for the future. He is getting big time players and convincing these prospects to go the Notre Dame way. I cannot be any more excited about the future for the Irish.

After being allowed to perform workouts with the team just days ago, wide reciever Michael Floyd and his attroney are planning a plea deal that will most likely be in pace by the end of June.

Floyd didn’t attend the hearing todaybut was represented by his attorney, William Stanley, who descbried the next steps he and Floyd are going to have to take after they review the narrative of the arrest report.

“As soon as Michael and I have a chance to review that, we’ll sit down with the deputy prosecutor and see if we can come up with a resolution.”

The main thing you will take out of this news today is that Floyd won’t know his legal future until later this month. Which means he will have some time to workout with the team, take the necessary steps in order to play football next year, and the most important thing: take a step back from it all and think about the consequences he’s going to face for his actions and learn from it. What’s done is in the past and the only thing he can do is get his life back on track.

What do you think of this whole situation? Don’t be afraid to voice your opinion to the Irish faithful!
