It is February and the Irish Women’s Basketball Team have their eyes on one thing, and that’s a championship. Coach Muffet McGraw had the team on top of its game tonight as they soared past Louisville, 68-52. Never losing the lead throughout the entire game the Irish beating the Cardinals on the most important categories, field goal percentage and free throw percentage. Skylar Diggins scored 21 points and had 7 assists, in the win against the Cardinals. These Irish Women are now 26-2 overall and 13-1 in the Big East Conference.

Skylar Diggins will need to keep up the same type of play come March especially if the women have to face the Baylor Bears during March Madness. The season will end against Big East Foe Connecticut, earlier this season the Irish won in overtime 74-67. If Notre Dame can come out with another win against Connecticut, expect the Irish to use the momentum in March to help propel them far in the tournament.

In a game that was controlled by Notre Dame’s half court tempo, the Irish pulled out an upset that no one saw coming. Notre Dame defeated Louisville in double overtime, 67-65.

Notre Dame was in the game the entire way and showed that they were there to stay. Only down by four at the half, they held the Cardinals to no field goals for the first seven minutes in the second half. But, Louisville began to run with the game and was up 47-40 with 5 minutes left when Notre Dame came surging back, ending their run with a 3 pointer from Eric Atkins that tied it at 50 (around 26 seconds were left).

After remaining teid in the first OT, Eric Atkins hit jumpers on back-to-back possessions to give Notre Dame a 65-63 lead with 17 seconds to play in double OT. He finished the game with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Another star for the Irish was center Jack Cooley. He lead the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He matched up well with Louisville’s big guys, who had foul trouble all game long.
