I know this is not a Notre Dame based story, but it has been relatively quiet and South bend as far as news goes. So I decided to let you know about a pretty big issue that has occurred today in the NCAA. Texas A&M has informed that they will be leaving the conference June 30, 2012.

“We are seeking to generate greater visibility nationwide for Texas A&M and our championship-caliber student-athletes, as well as secure the necessary and stable financial resources to support our athletic and academic programs,” Loftin said in a statement. “This is a 100-year decision that we have addressed carefully and methodically. Texas A&M is an extraordinary institution, and we look forward to what the future may hold for Aggies worldwide.” via ESPN

Texas A&M is rumored to be setting its eyes for the SEC, but the SEC said earlier today they have not received an application about joining the league. Earlier this month the SEC stated that they are fine with the number of teams they have now but are always open to hear cases for expansion. No one has reported anything from any other league, so I’m assuming that the Aggies are putting all their eggs into the SEC basket.

As for the Big 12, they said that they understand that Notre Dame has no interest and that Arkansas has a less than 50% chance of joining. They also aren’t interested in SMU, TCU, or Houston as much as people thought because they are looking to bring in out of state (Texas) school in. Sources say Pittsburgh and Louisville are under consideration to receive invitations.

What are your thoughts? Was this a good move by Texas A&M? Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

It was a good run, but the “Play Like A Champion Today” tradition fell just a little short today. Florida State (yet again basketball fans) defeated us with ease, which ended Notre Dame’s chance at the finals.

Florida State had a jaw dropping 80% of the fans votes, leaving only 20% for us. It is not the way you want to lose, but it’s not like it was an actual game. It was a fan voted tournament which the winner (the school) was given free copies of NCAA FOOTBALL 12 by EA Sports.

Also, even though our tradition is very historic, I do enjoy Florida State’s. The Indian slamming the arrow on the ground with 90,000 plus fans going crazy gives me goose bumps. It’s not a place I would want to play as an away team. So, congratulations FSU and good luck in the finals.
