Former Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd signs with the Arizona Cardinals

Just one day before their mini-camp, the Arizona Cardinals inked Michael Floyd to a rookie contract, making him an official NFL player.

The deal is a 4 year rookie contract, with a team option of a 5th year. The financials of the deal weren;t announced, but NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, said Floyd’s four-year deal is worth $10 million in guaranteed money, with of course the option for the 5th year.

Selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the 6 ft. 3 in. wide receiver set school records at Notre Dame with 271 receptions for 3,686 yards and 37 touchdowns in his career. Floyd is coming off a senior season in which he caught 100 passes for 1,147 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Michael is expected to help Pro-Bowl wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald out on offense and give a duel threat that defenses have to take account for. Both players, if used properly, can have terrific seasons. A;; the pressure on the Cardinals lies in quarterback Kevin Kolb’s hands.

Darius Fleming chosen by the 49ers in the NFL Draft

Notre Dame’s Darius Fleming will join a great linebacker core in San Franisco. He was selected 165th overall in the 5th round by the 49ers

He will likely be primarily in a special teams role if Fleming hopes to make the final roster. He will be in the depth chart along with All-Pros Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman and standout rookie Aldon Smith.

I believe Fleming could be useful in kick-off returns and as well as punt returning. It may not be the most glamoring job, but if he can gold his role there, he can have a chance at competing for the linebacker position.

Notre Dame’s Harrison Smith picked 29th by the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL Draft

Minnesota had a great night at the Draft last night. To protect Christian Ponder, their rising quarterback, the Vikings took massive left tackle Matt Kalil from USC as the 4th overall pick to solidify their offensive line.

Later that round, the Vikings traded with Baltimore for another 1st round draft pick. The NFC North team acquired the 29th overall selection and sent their 2nd-round (35th overall) and 4th-round (98th) picks to the Ravens.

With the 29th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected Harrison Smith, a former safety from Notre Dame.

The Vikings were in desperate need of a safety, and Smith will be the perfect kid for the job. He is all over the field and always plays with heart. I cannot wait to see him play against the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Staford on Sundays.
