Sophomore attackman Westy Hopkins led the Irish offense with three goals and one assist. Freshman attackman Conor Doyle added in two goals for ND, while sophomore midfielder Jim Marlatt had one goal and two assists.

Junior goalie John Kemp made seven saves in 52:44 of action for the Irish. Yet another strong game for ther Irish defense.

“I’m really happy with the way we played today,” said Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan. “Providence is a tough out. They don’t have a lot of wins, but if you look at their scores, they are playing one and two-goal games with a lot of people. They play for that, to be there in the end. They have done that with just about every team they’ve played this year. So I’m really pleased with how we played today. We didn’t give away anything. We were disciplined, smart and fundamentally sound.” -UND.com

The Fighting Irish will next play next Sunday at Georgetown. The Big East match-up is scheduled for a 1:00 pm ET start in Washington, D.C.

Notre Dame clinched the number 3 seed last night in a big win against a surprising Providence team. Notre Dame finished the season 13-5 (3rd place), while Providence finished the season 4-14 (15th place.

Cooley’s career night:

After scoring 2 points in Monday’s game against Georgetown, Jack Cooley came back with a career high 27 points and 17 rebounds. Even Cooley was impressed with himself.

“Monday was just extremely uncharacteristic. I just had a horrible game,” Notre Dame’s 6-foot-9 center said. “Nothing was really right. Something really wasn’t right. Things weren’t falling and it was really frustrating. I needed to get back out there and have a good game and I had a pretty good one tonight.” -ESPN.com

Notre Dame can now sit back and relax as they will wait to see who they will face next Thursday in the quarterfinals.

“It’s good to clinch that up. It really is,” Cooley said.  “We get to wait to play. … And we get to watch great basketball while sitting in the hotel room.” -ESPN.com

Seniors Scott Martin and Tim Abromaitis were honored last night for what could be there final one at home (pending 6th year eligibility appeals).  While Tim didn’t play due to injury, Martin had 11 points and 4 rebounds. A great way to go out for Martin, 16-1 at home your senior year isn;t bad at all.
