The Fighting Irish have been in reports over the last few months regarding a non-football conference switch. However, those reports are being denied.

Notre Dame’s Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick told the Chicago Tribune that Notre Dame is not going anywhere as of right now.

“I have no idea what prompted (the reports) that,” Swarbrick said. “It is not based on any discussion, any meeting we have done…

“I can’t imagine what triggered the account, because I did see it. There was no conversation, no ‘something’ that would cause it to be written.” -Jack Swarbrick

The idea of Notre Dame moving to the Big 12 would is interesting. For one, Notre Dame should stay loyal to the Big East for all that they have done for them. But, times have changed. With no Pittsburgh, Syracuse, or even West Virginia, Notre Dame has no reason to not explore the possibility to play the Big 12. Playing Baylor, Kansas, and Texas in basketball would be great for the program and the fans.

Personally, I believe Notre Dame should stay in the Big East. I don’t see the point in switching conference to play similar competition. Marquette, Georgetown, and Villanova aren’t going anywhere. Why should we?

If things aren’t working out in a few years, my opinion may change however.

Should Notre Dame switch conferences? Let us know in the comments section below!

The Minutemen will be adding a player who has not see much of the field in his time at South Bend. Walker has made 7 game appearances since 2009, and he didn’t see any time last year. According to ESPN’s game log, Walker has only made 1 catch his entire career.

“We are very excited about having Deion join us for the upcoming season,” said Minutemen head coach Charley Molnar. “Having worked with Deion at Notre Dame, he is a terrific person and will make the most of this opportunity. Along with Hafis Williams and Michael Cox, Deion will also be able to make an immediate impact on the program — both on and off the field.” -Fox News

The UMass football program will be entering the FBS Mid American Conference next season. In the past, the Minutemen have been playing their football in the FCS (Division 1AA).

The classic Notre Dame-Army game may be coming back to life. Reports are saying the rivalry could continue in 2013.

Both sides are working on getting the series resumed, with the possibility of the game to be played at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, NY. This, of course, was the location of the previous game between the 2 teams in 2010, where Notre Dame won 27-3.

Army’s Athletic Director, Boo Corrigan, said that the game is getting closer and closer to being finalized.

“We’re working through details with the University of Notre Dame on a series,” Corrigan said. “It’s coming in the future. We’re excited about a series that we are going to play with them.” -Times Herald-Record

Corrigan, graduated from Notre Dame in 1990 and later spent 5 years as an associate Athletic Director there, was hired as Army’s Athletic Director in 2011.

Notre Dame has not officially released its 2013 schedule yet, as it is school policy not to announce football slates until the entire season’s games are finalized. The Irish do have a previously announced game against Arizona State at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Do you like the idea of Notre Dame playing Army? Is this good for the future of the Irish schedule?
