Father of reciever T.J. Jones and member of 1988 national championship team, Andre Jones died recently due to a brain aneurysm. Andre was only 42.

Andre played outside linebacker for Coach Holtz from ’87-’91. He had 147 career tackles and was selected by the Steelers in the 1991 NFL draft. After Pittsburgh, he played for the Lions and also a team in the Canadian Football League.

T.J. Jones, a sophmore at Notre Dame, had 23 receptions for 306 yards last year for the Irish. He averaged 13.3 yards per catch and scored 3 touchdowns. His best game was against Navy when he had 5 catches for 53 yards and 1 touchdown.

Many former players and current players of Notre Dame have reached out to T.J. via twitter to show their support.

Former nose guard Ian Williams tweeted:

“I’m sorry … everything happens for a reason…even if we dont know why or dont expect it… Love you bro! You got all of us!”

Manti Te’o also twetted:

”stay strong! If u need anythin u know we all got u! Love u bro.”

I truly believe this is what makes ND special. When there is hardship, we all stand together and fight whatever comes our way. Whether its good or bad, Notre Dame until the end.

Rest In Peace Andre Jones.

My cousin is injury-prone, to say the least. He’s broken dozens of bones, sprained countless limbs, suffered any freak injury your imagination could muster. He’s rarely healthy and when he is, it’s just a matter of time before he pulls a muscle, or chips a bone.

That’s been Notre Dame this season.

Brian Kelly and co. have heard a lot of criticism for a poor season, but how can he be expected to win without his top quarterback (Dayne Crist), his top running back (Armando Allen), his top tight end (Kyle Rudolph), and his best defensive lineman (Ian Williams)? Even Michael Floyd, his top wide receiver and probably top player, has missed time due to injury.

I can’t judge Kelly too harshly on this season because of how shorthanded his team has been. He has made some questionable coaching decisions (i.e. throwing at the end of the Tulsa game instead of setting up for, then kicking the field goal), but it hasn’t been a fair test. We will learn a lot more about Brian Kelly and his future at Notre Dame during next season. Until then, I’ll hold my tongue.

Somehow, despite the rash of injuries, and inexplicable losses to Navy and Tulsa, Notre Dame is a win Saturday over Army away from bowl eligibility. And, as the luck of the Irish would have it, Notre Dame will be getting some reinforcements for Saturday’s game. (ESPN Chicago) (more…)
