According to Rivals.com, Notre Dame currently has 21 commitments for the 2013 season. This includes one 5 star player, eleven 4 star players, and nine 3 star players. Currently Notre Dame is ranked 5th overall in recruiting. Just another week filled with rumors. Danny Mattingly or Alex Anzalone, have not decommitted, but it is not looking good for the Irish. On the bright side there is a rumor that a recruit will commit during the Army All-American game.

Alex Anzalone

Many sources are reporting that it is just a matter of time until Anzalone decommits from Notre Dame and commits to Florida. This is a slight shock, since he decommitted from Ohio State and committed to the Fighting Irish. I didn’t think he would flip again, well looks like I am going to be wrong. This will leave Notre Dame without a true inside linebacker to mold, since Dan Fox and Carlo Calabrese will more than likely be back for a 5th year next season. After that, Grace is one of the few inside backers Notre Dame has.

Chris Hawkins

According to his father, Chris will not be taking any more visits this season and is fully committed to USC. Now is this carved in stone? No, but they have the stone and chisel in hand. Now Notre Dame has to pull out all the stops for LJ Moore, Mackensie Alexander, Max Redfield, and Cole Luke. Cornerback is still a huge concern for the Irish. Currently with two 3 star recruits, one with a broken leg (Rashad Kinlaw) and the other has been solid so far his senior year (Devin Butler). The Irish must come out of this recruiting class with at least one more corner. I would say LJ Moore has the most interest in Notre Dame out of the four mentioned above.

Max Redfield

It is reported by We Are SC on ESPN.com that Redfield is now a soft commit to USC after his visit to Notre Dame. Good but not great news for the Irish. Redfield would be a great addition for the Irish and give them an elite recruit in the 2013 class. At 6’2’’ he has good size for the cornerback position and is one of the better all around corners in the class (ranked 3rd best cornerback overall).

Al-Quadin Muhammad

It has been reported by Mike Farrell on Rivals.com that there have been rumors flying around about Muhammad being a silent commit to Notre Dame. He doesn’t want to make it official until January at the Army All-American Bowl. Rutgers still has a shot at landing the 4 star defensive end, but it looks like the Irish have landed another commitment.

Overall Notre Dame fans start saying your prayers for Danny Mattingly and Alex Anzalone to stay where they are and play for the Irish in 2013. If they decide to leave then it will be a major blow to the depth of middle linebacker in 2013. With virtually no depth or experience at the cornerback position Notre Dame needs one or two elite secondary players to fill the void. It is very important to the future of secondary.
