According to Rivals.com, Notre Dame currently has 22 commitments for the 2013 season. This includes two 5 star players, fourteen 4 star players, and six 3 star players. Currently Notre Dame is ranked 2nd overall in recruiting for 2013. Tarean Folston surprised me when he committed to Notre Dame on Wednesday of this past week. He joins the Irish as the 22nd commitment and the second running back commit for 2013. It surprised me, because of the fact Greg Bryant (a 5 star running back) was already committed and Notre Dame has some young talent at the running back position already. Folston recently said in an interview that he is ready to compete for playing time and wasn’t worried about there already being another back already committed. This is what you want out of a recruit, someone that is ready to compete and isn’t afraid of where he will fall on the depth chart. All you recruiting nuts need to watch the Under Amour All-American game tonight at 5 p.m. on ESPN, where Max Redfield is supposed to decide where he will be attending school next fall. Not only that, but you will get to watch commits Alex Anzalone, Tarean Folston, Colin McGovern, Hunter Biven, and undecided Sebastian Larue (just de-committed from USC).

Max Redfield

It is a three school race for Redfield and it will be decided tonight who the winner will be. Notre Dame, USC, and Ohio State are in the running. Personally I think that Redfield will commit to the Irish tonight and what a commit that would be. Max would be the highest rated defensive back to commit to the Irish since online recruiting rankings were started. If Redfield doesn’t commit to the Irish they really don’t have a backup plan when it comes to defensive backs.

Sebastian Larue

It didn’t look like Notre Dame stood a chance to get Larue, but now that he is de-committed from USC it is very possible that he could pick the Irish as his school. Notre Dame and Texas A&M are going to get official visits from Sebastian in the next couple of weeks, but USC isn’t out of it yet. Washington State held him for an official visit earlier in the season, but they don’t look like a true contender.

Eddie Vanderdoes

As of now he claims that there is no leader in his recruitment and all five schools (USC, Notre Dame, Alabama, UCLA, and Washington) are even. He said on a live chat on rivals.com that USC has recruited him the hardest after he de-committed, so it is obvious that they really like this guy. It will come down to USC, Notre Dame, and Alabama. He plans to announce on national signing day in February.

Notre Dame will be able to take a couple more recruits tops and saying that, if Redfield commits then this defensive recruiting class will be one of the best to ever come into Notre Dame. Tonight is a big night for Notre Dame football, not just because Max Redfield will make his decision, but because there will be some talent displayed tonight that we may see on the field next year.
