Editors Note: Now and until National Signing Day, Slap the Sign will be producing a daily digest of all the recruiting information that has occurred. With 23 days left until National Signing Day, the activity will be fast and furious. The rumors will be rampant. Most of all the excitement will be high. Slap the Sign is going to try to make sense of it all.
Remaining Scholarships
The most important thing to know is how many players can be taken in a given class. Currently, Notre Dame has two spots remaining. This number could flex in any direction depending on their personnel decisions. If Jamoris Slaughter returns to South Bend, this number would shrink to one. If they refused the 5th years of Carlo Calabrese or Dan Fox that number could move to as high as four. It probably depends on who wants come on board. Notre Dame would not take a recruit who will sit on the bench for four years to reject Calabrese. Clearly, the number is between 1 and 4 players.
MacKensie Alexander
Notre Dame has not contacted Alexander. At times, Alexander claimed Notre Dame as his leader but he has moved around on his Top 5 frequently. Notre Dame could use an elite Cornerback but they currently have 3 recruits committed at this position (Luke, Kinlaw, Butler). Alexander is widely considered to be one of the best CBs in the nation. Even though Alexander has been on campus, it seems unlikely that Notre Dame will land him at this point.
Eddie Vanderdoes
Vanderdoes is focusing on a Top 5 of Notre Dame, Alabama, USC, UCLA and Washington. He scheduled an official visit to Alabama today for February. He already has visit scheduled for January 25-27 for Notre Dame. It seems very unlikely that Vanderdoes will select USC or Washington. This leaves Notre Dame, Alabama and UCLA.
Ty Issac
This internet rumor does not ever seem to go away. Notre Dame fans have wanted Ty Issac since the beginning of this recruiting cycle. The Irish already have 2 Running Backs committed in the 2013 class. Folston may be willing and athletic enough to play other positions. If Folston switched positions, this would give Notre Dame another Running Back slot. It has been rumored that Issac will be visiting the weekend of January 25, which is the same as the Vanderdoes, Prevot and Hollins.
