Devin Butler
Cornerback
4-Star
Washington, D.C.
Commitment Date: 4/4/12
After committing April 4th of last year he has not wavered at all on his commitment. He took his official visit on December 7thand he was blown away by the experience he had. Many of the three star recruits will commit early to ensure they have a spot in the recruiting class. Many three star prospects get overlooked in recruitment ranking because of their school size, league competition, and lack of promotion of the athlete. Butler is not nationally ranked as a player, according to Rivals. However, he looks like he could contribute by his Sophomore or Junior year. He should be counted on as a special teams guy at first, but he will probably be a Cornerback when playing a set position. Butler is a very raw athlete that has some very good skills, but many skills need to be polished before he will be ready for college football.
From the Slap the Sign Evaluation:
"Devin Butler stands at 6’1’’ 179 pounds and runs a 4.64 40 yard dash and does have a vertical of 37 inches. This guy is just a pure athlete and is slated to play defensive back, but that could change throughout his career at Notre Dame. Wide receiver is also an option based on what happens and how he performs. His relentless pursuit makes him a defensive player in my mind, but his good ball skills and leaping ability makes me think he could end up at wide receiver. Wherever he ends up he will make an impact. There are some things he needs to improve on and for starters he can get out of position in zone being overly aggressive, can over pursue on occasion but corrects it and still makes the play. Adding muscle to him will be ideal for him to become a starter."
