2014 Notre Dame Football Recruiting

Despite not having an opponent to prepare for, the Notre Dame coaching staff has still been busy putting the finishing touches on the 2014 recruiting class. As the high school football season comes to a close, Notre Dame has been able to see new film of prospects who may have been borderline before their Senior campaigns. The Irish staff extended four offers this week to 2014 prospects.

Sam Hubbard-Cincinnati, OH (Archbishop Moeller): This offer is a year late and several dollars short. Hubbard was once committed to Notre Dame to play lacrosse but de-committed when Ohio State came forward with an offer for football. Why Notre Dame did not extend an offer at that time is not known? Hubbard is probably an exact profile fit for the “Dog” linebacker position that is currently occupied by Jaylon Smith. This offer could obviously turn into something since he was once committed to the Irish. Hubbard desires to play both sports at the next level. The Irish can offer that at a pretty high level. But, the Buckeyes can too.

Kolin Hill-Schertz, TX (Samuel Clemens): This offer may be a stretch for the Fighting Irish but they are definitely looking for bodies defensively. Most services have him rated as a 2-star recruit. Hill is borderline FBS prospect. He has offers from Boise State, Colorado, Holy Cross, Nevada, Texas State, Texas-San Antonio and UTEP. It is likely that Hill will jump on board sooner rather than later.

Charles Nelson-Daytona Beach, FL (Seabreeze): This offer is definitely not a stretch but may be more of a diamond in the rough. Nelson is rated a 3-star prospect by 247Sports but he holds offers from USC and Miami as well as other AQ schools. Nelson is an athlete that checks in at 5’9 170. He may be an option for Running Back or Slot Receiver.

Nile Sykes-Oak Park, IL (Montini Catholic): Notre Dame’s needs at Linebacker may be fulfilled by Nile Sykes. Sykes has 13 offers including Missouri and Illinois. However, many believe that Sykes will eventually join Notre Dame’s 2014 recruiting class. Sykes is a 3-star recruit or a 4-star recruit depending on who is asked. He is probably a solid 11th hour pick up for the Fighting Irish.

Jhonathon Williams-Berrien Springs, MI (Berrien Springs): Finally, Notre Dame extended an offer to Berrien Springs Defensive End Jhonathon Williams. Williams is currently committed to Missouri. Williams also has an offer from Michigan. Michigan offered Williams after being spurned by Da’Shawn Hand. Notre Dame has a small chance of landing Williams at the moment. He would be a great pickup at this point in the year.
