The position battle at Quarterback may be the biggest smoke and mirrors battle on the team. It is hard to imagine Everett Golson not taking the field for Notre Dame on August 30th.

Everett Golson’s story is well-documented. Golson was suspended for the 2013 season after “poor academic judgment”. He worked with George Whitfield in California during his time off. Of course, Golson led the Irish to an undefeated regular season in 2012. That experience for a Quarterback is invaluable.

Malik Zaire is riding the high of an excellent Blue-Gold game where he outplayed his counterpart Golson. Zaire redshirted his first season at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly insists that there is a competition between the two players. Whether it is real or contrived, fans and on-lookers will never know. Golson should give Kelly everything he wants in a Quarterback: passing, running and experience. Why would he make any other decision?
